RVT Current and Past Study Participation

Ongoing Studies

Comparison of Age-related Macular Degeneration Treatment Trials (CATT): National Eye Institute
The CATT has been organized by the NEI to directly compare two anti-VEGF medications Avastin and Lucentis. These medications act to block the action of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) which stimulates the growth and leakage of subretinal membranes in AMD. Members of RVT have no ties to the manufacturer of both medications. This study began in February 2008 and is recruiting patients.

Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network Studies
Laser-Ranibizumab-Triamcinolone for Diabetic Macular Edema Study
This clinical trial is designed to compare several treatments for diabetic macular edema. Patients are randomized to standard laser treatment, laser plus intravitreal Ranibizumab, intravitreal Ranibizumab plus deferred laser, or intravitreal triamcinolone plus focal photocoagulation.
Laser-Ranibizumab-Triamcinolone for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) Study
This study is designed to determine whether the intravitreal injection of Ranibizumab or steroid can reduce the risk of visual acuity impairment with panretinal photocoagulation and increase the chances of at least short term visual acuity improvement in eyes with center-involved macular edema that are undergoing laser for PDR

SCORE
1. Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion
2. Central Retinal Vein Occlusion
The SCORE trials are organized to test the use of intraocular steroids in the treatment of Branch and Central Vein Occlusions.

Allergan Uveitis Study
To determine the safety and efficacy of the applicator systems of 700 mcg compared to 350 mcg of Dexamethoasone DEX PD DDS and a sham injection in the treatment of non-infectious ocular inflammation of the posterior segment in patients with intermediate or posterior Uveitis.
