     Dr. Diaz is a graduate of Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania, where he double majored in Biology and Spanish literature. He attended Harvard Medical School and did post-graduate work in Immunology and Molecular Biology at The University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed a two year vitreoretinal fellowship with Dr. Lambert at Baylor College of Medicine. After further training in Uveitis at Ohio State University, he returned to Baylor College of Medicine for two years as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology specializing in vitreoretinal diseases, surgery and uveitis.

Dr. Diaz was board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1995. He was invited to become an examiner for the American Board and has done so since 2001 for new graduates. He is a member of the American Uveitis Society, The American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has done much work teaching and lecturing for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which honored him with both an Achievement Award and a Secretariat Award in 2002.

Roberto has also been in private clinical practice in Houston, McAllen, and Fort Worth, Texas following his faculty position at Baylor College of Medicine. His research interests are in uveitis, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, intravitreal medication devices, and medical treatments for uveitis. He has published and presented in both retina and uveitis topics. He is participating in several national Uveitis studies at RVT.

He is fluent in both English and Spanish, and has a genuine interest in providing eye care for the special needs of Hispanic patients. He is the Past President of the Board of Directors of AVES, a health organization in Houston dedicated to helping the Hispanic community. Dr. Diaz’s hobbies are bodybuilding, nutrition, music, travel and pets. His personal philosophy is to treat each patient the way he would treat a member of his own family like all of the physicians at RVT.
