Texas Foundation for Eye Research

The Texas Foundation for Eye Research is a non-profit foundation created with several goals to provide funds for research, innovation, education, and new avenues for information for patients.  Each subgroup has a separate account and funding and donations can be made directly to each. The Board of Directors are voluntary with no income to any board director from this foundation.   Among our current funds include:

1.  Macular Degeneration Research Center.  We are interested in better ways to help patients with macular degeneration and diseases with similar problems (OHS, PXE, Myopia, Idiopathic, etc.) to include surgical techniques (RPE transplantation, subretinal growth factors, macular translocation, etc.) and patient education about their diseases.  We are working closely with a company on the development of RPE transplantation techniques and soon hope to begin a clinical trial of this technique.  The CATT is underway to determine the efficacy of Avastin vs. Lucentis in treating this disease.   For more information see: RVT Studies

2.   Military Research.  Research in military organizations has been difficult in the past as there was no clear avenue for funds "storage" for military research projects and grants.  This fund was set up to provide that avenue at no cost (and allowing appreciation) for military ophthalmological research.   Currently, research at the combined residencies of Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical have funds in this account.

3. Charity Patient Care. Recently added is an account specifically for the care of patients without insurance or funds for vitreoretinal surgery. The account will pay the surgery center for a flat rate for care and Dr. Lambert and his partners will provide the care at no charge to the patient. We further have agreed to provide retinal care for retinal patients sent by the Houston Eye Associates Foundation. Dr. Lambert is hoping to devote the majority of his time to this and complicated vitreoretinal surgical care.

4.  RVT and PESA projects and grants.  This fund will provide ongoing research and information/education project funding for such programs as patient education, research projects for members of Retina and Vitreous of Texas and Plastic Eye Surgery Associates, and a fund to provide grants to ophthalmology residents wishing to complete small research projects during their residency.

For our ongoing studies see: RVT Studies.
